Home festival Altenau
The 18th Altenauer Heimatfest will be celebrated in Altenau in 2025. It is an event steeped in tradition that puts the mountain town of Altenau and its community centre stage.
A week of celebrations will be organised from 14 to 21 September 2025, inviting not only current but also former citizens of the city. Further details on the celebratory programme are yet to be announced.
Traditional local festival
Since 1926, the local festival has had a firm place in Altenau's calendar of events. It is organised on a voluntary basis by committed residents of Altenau. They take care of various aspects of the festival in working groups, such as the parade, the festival programme, financing and advertising.
Extensive festival week
The programme for the festival week is varied and culminates in the festival weekend, where celebrations take place in the marquee at the bus station on Friday and Saturday. The big parade, a highlight of the festival, parades through the streets of the town on Sunday at 2 p.m. with musical accompaniment. The development of the mountain town is portrayed in historical pictures by groups on foot and with decorated floats. The festival culminates in the torchlight parade on Sunday evening, from the Glockenberg to the Kurgastzentrum, with a large firework display.
