Home festival Altenau
The 19th Altenauer Heimatfest will be celebrated in Altenau in 2030. It is an event steeped in tradition that puts the mountain town of Altenau and its community centre stage and takes place every five years.
A week of celebrations will be organised in September 2030, inviting not only current but also former citizens of the town. Further details on the celebratory programme are yet to be announced.
Traditional local festival
The local history festival has been a firm fixture in Altenau's calendar of events since 1926. It is organised on a voluntary basis by committed residents of Altenau. They take care of various aspects of the festival in working groups, such as the parade, the festival programme, financing and advertising.
Extensive festival week
The programme for the festival week is varied and culminates in the festival weekend, where celebrations take place in the marquee at the bus station on Friday and Saturday. The big parade, a highlight of the festival, parades through the streets of the town on Sunday at 2 p.m. with musical accompaniment. The development of the mountain town is portrayed in historical pictures by groups on foot and with decorated floats. The festival culminates in the torchlight parade on Sunday evening, from the Glockenberg to the Kurgastzentrum, with a large firework display.
Facade competition
Traditionally, the houses in the mountain town are decorated with spruce branches and flags for the Heimatfest. Some house owners in the mountain town take the Heimatfest as an opportunity to present their house fronts with increased effort. In addition to spruce branches, flowers and flags, the idea of home is taken into account.
Various themes are displayed and old treasures from days long gone are often brought to light. Various exhibits can be admired, from deer antlers, which you were allowed to find yourself as a Zackelsucher, to tools from the mining era, the associated professions such as lumberjack, logger and cowherd, as well as all kinds of domestic utensils that have long since disappeared from modern life.
A jury will award various prizes among the registered participants. Have fun "decorating" and "viewing".
