Carillon in Zellerfeld
at Thomas-Merten-Platz
The carillon in Zellerfeld was financed by donations in 1987 and thus made possible. It was supplemented in 1988 with the travelling art at the front of the building. Originally equipped with a mechanical perforated strip control system, it was given a modern computerised control system in 1990. This allows access to a repertoire of around 400 songs.
The carillon fell silent in 2022, but an interest group in the Upper Harz History and Museum Association campaigned for it to be put back into operation. The carillon at the Alte Post, Thomas-Merten-Platz 1, has been ringing again since autumn 2024. Thanks to the new control system, songs can be played at individually desired times.
Regular playing times:
Daily at 9:10am, 12:10pm and 5:35pm, plus Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 3:10pm.
Further information, including the song repertoire and details of the driving skills, can be found on the website: www.glockenspiel-zellerfeld.de and www.oberharz.de
Song requests:
Songs from the repertoire can be submitted for events at the Tourist Information Clausthal-Zellerfeld / Urlaubswelt Harz or at St Salvatoris Church. A lead time of about 1.5 days is required for the programming. It is also possible to specify the exact playing time required. There is no charge for the fulfilment of song requests, but the interest group is happy to receive donations to support the carillon.
