Harz Monastery Hiking Trai
The Harz Monastery Hiking Trail is around 95 kilometres long and connects the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Goslar and Quedlinburg. The hiking trail is not only aimed at hikers, but also pilgrims. There are many spiritual things to discover along the way: twelve imposing monasteries, pretty monastery gardens, distilleries, Gothic cloisters and rustic churches. Experience the spirituality of the monasteries, fish-rich monastery ponds, mystical forests and gentle mountains. The former inner-German border can also be discovered on this route. A mixture of culture, history and nature awaits you here, combined with a high level of relaxation and exercise.
The following monasteries are located along the Harz Monastery Trail: Neuwerkkirche Goslar Stiftskirche St. Georg near Goslar, Wöltingerode Monastery near Vienenburg, Ilsenburg Monastery, Drübeck Monastery, remnants of Himmelspforten Monastery near Wernigerode, Michaelstein Monastery near Blankenburg, St. Bartholomew's Mountain Church in Blankenburg (Harz), Wendhusen Monastery in Thale, St. Cyriakus Collegiate Church in Gernrode and St. Mary's Monastery in Quedlinburg. This long-distance hiking trail is divided into six stages, which are between twelve and 19 kilometres long.
